5 Self Care Tips

So this is a topic that is highly talked about right now after what some may call an intense 2017 or just life in general. What’s even better about this I think is that the mental health conversation has become something people are paying attention to and applying in their weekly schedule.

It doesn’t matter if your life is technically great, or you feel you’re at your absolute end. Self Care matters and it’s important to keep a check on your thoughts & emotions. So I’m going to stop talking about it and share a few things I’ve incorporated into my weekly schedule to help me deal.

1. Social Media Blackout

Delete the apps that you find distracting to your mental. Simple as that. Well, it may not be as simple as that but when I started doing these it totally changed my perspective. I realized I got more done every day, I just felt better about my own decisions and there was less pressure to show how good my life is. Set a goal of 7 days and see how you feel. In my most recent Blackout, I did two week but I’m going for a month soon.

2. Go For a Walk

Fresh air is AH-MAZ-ING. Don’t sleep on it. Similar to exercise that gives you happy endorphins a simple walk give you that fresh air and clarity that can help you get out of your head just enough.

3. Meditation

I bet you’re thinking about how many more people can talk about meditation but hear me out. It doesn’t need to be this very intense project that you dedicated 30 minutes or more to every day.

You can start small with free podcasts or app for 10 minutes in your car before or after work. There are even 5-minute ones to get you started. I personally do it at lunch when I’ve had a particularly intense morning.

4. Take a Bath

This isn’t for everyone and it may be the island child in me that loves being submerged in water. But getting a hot bath, scented Epsom salts, a candle and a soundtrack that you love. Game over. Best sleep ever. The trick with this is doing it right before you’re going to bed.

5. Talk to Someone

My friends always laugh at me for this but I love talking on the phone. So I regularly randomly facetime call them near and wide just to say hey. It helps to catch up and take your mind off things that are weighing you down. While it’s good to talk about your problems, it’s also pretty good to just talk out loud.

I hope some of these come in handy.

Let me know what your ideal self-care tools are or maybe something I should be adding to mine.
