My Favorite Places to eat in The Cayman Islands
This is literally the most exciting topic because I haven’t lived at home I always go back with a ‘Must Eat’ list.
The Caribbean, in general, is known for having amazing and flavorful foods. This comes from the amazing spices and styles that have lived among the native people for years. The Cayman Islands specifically is unique because while they have their own amazing styles of food like Cayman style beef, Cayman Style Lobster, Stew Turtle etc.
Grand Cayman benefits from the versatility of having some amazing chefs from the islands and around the world bringing their dishes or opening restaurants.
The below list is my personal favorites from not only grew up there but just overall consistency in these restaurants over the years. If you’ve been to any of them I’m positive you will agree and if not well here is a starter list for your next trip.
8. KFC – CAYMAN ISLANDS (George Town)
I’m not punking you. The KFC in the Cayman Islands is on something different than you may be used to in UK/USA. The chicken is juicy and the fries are properly seasoned. So listen… Don’t @ me until you try it okay!
7. OVER THE EDGE (Bodden Town)
I’ve mostly gone here on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch with my mom as it’s her favorite spot. The view is perfect, the breeze is calming and the service has always been on point.
Recently I’ve heard they do an excellent weekend Brunch with seafood, breakfast and local items buffet style.
6. Mango Tree (George Town)
If you’re looking for a local spot where you’ll see a range of local diners then Mango Tree is it.
You can get all the local favorites like Curry Goat, Stewed Turtle, Jerk Chicken & Pork with an unending list. To be honest I end up going here every single time I’m home because it’s near the airport and an easy place to wait for the traffic to die down with a cold drink in hand.
They have an inside and outside seating area but I would recommend outside because have a stressed how nice the breeze is on the island?
5. The Brasserie (George Town)
They use fresh ingredients and items they have grown in their own garden. They label themselves the field-to-fork or rather sea-to-fork community. I will absolutely give it to them because I’ve never seen the items on their menu anywhere else. Perfect place if you’re in the mood for yummy flavor combinations, fresh fish and vegetables.
If you go to The Brasserie for lunch or dinner expect to be given options you may have never tasted before but will absolutely be impressed with.
4. Rum Point Club (Rum Point)
The Mudslide. End of Story.
3. Gelato * Co. Cremeria Italiana (Camana Bay)
This place opened I think 6-7 years ago (don’t quote me) and ever since I’ve visited their delightful Gelato shop I have not hit up Haagen Daz again (sorry not sorry).
The best part is while they have the regular favorites like pistachio, chocolate, hazelnut they also come up with super creative and yummy island fruit favorite like Mango, XXX, XXX.
Plus, they are a location in Caymana Bay which makes for excellent ice cream cone walking & talking.
2. Casanovas (George Town)
Casanovas by the Sea is just an Italian restaurant with excellent lunch & dinner spot for multiple reasons. It’s on the waterfront in George Town which means you can look out into the ocean with the beautiful blues Cayman is known for. The staff really pay attention to you and the food comes out within a good time.
This restaurant has been around for a long time and the owner has a really cute wall in the front where they post photos of regulars and celebrities that have visited.
My favorite meal is the Penne Contadina. You may recognize it from the featured image above.
Growing up my best friend and I were very much in an appetizer phase and would stop at different places for whatever we were craving and Casanovas was always a stop. If not for the bruschetta then a penne contain to share!
1. Yoshi’s (Seven Mile Beach)
My #1. My Everything. My Boo Thang.
I think my obsession with Yoshi’s started at a young age and honestly, it’s never gone away. I have never in my life been disappointed with my food at Yoshi’s.
They also make a mean cocktail to go with whatever you choose and if you’re not sure just ask the bartender as they can make recommendations based on what you like.
It’s all the kind of place that everyone can find something whether or not you are a sushi eater or not.
Happy Eating!
