Costa Rica: Days 1 & 2
Day 1 – Arriving in San Jose/ Exploring
After a 3:45 AM wake-up call, a connection via MIA and a medical emergency on my flight I made to San Jose, Costa Rica. [insert that gif from bridesmaids about partying]
Turns out, San Jose was raining with a fierce vengeance.
After a 50-minute taxi ride to our hotel, I met up with Hennings for the obligatory catch-up session before heading out and making the best of what appears to be the gloomiest day all year (something about a weather system in the gulf???). Fear not we came prepared with rain jackets in tow.
With some googling, we decided to just start walking and hopefully see some parks, markets, and important buildings along the way.
We set out down Passe Colon until hitting central avenue and we just went from there.
Of course, we found a cute spot for lunch called La Casona Tipica. We both enjoyed something traditional to Latin American and the Caribbean alike. A plate of food called Casado con Pollo
In all honestly finding things to do in Central seemed far and few but we made it work.
Traveling down odd streets which appeared to have something worth wild.
Day 2 – Self Guided San Jose in the rain
In our best efforts to be Tourists we set our in the 100% of rain from our hotel once again. This time via Taxi con umbrella and our rain coats once again.
First stop was the National Park which was full of lush greenery and national statues I did not catch the dedication of who these statues were for. Apologies 🤷🏽♀️.
Coincidentally we came across protests in which there were police trucks and buses along one side of the park with citizens chanting and giving speeches. No clue what they were saying but they spoke with passion. So there is that. (We later found out it had something to do with the laws for Taxi drivers and local business changing)
Here is us sharing an umbrella and skipping deep puddles through the national park.
We visited a museum of modern art and contemporary design which was…unique.
To be honest our long game here was not properly thought out and the rain appeared to stay consistent so we opted for the next restaurant we sought out from our research. It was quaint and had an interesting two story set up with lots of different plants along the building.
Dos Cervezas and a shared dessert later we caught an Uber back to hotel for some down time (read: dry time).
Tonight we meet up with our group and potentially get more information on the city and a partake is a group dinner of sorts.
Tomorrow we are heading to Tortugero.
Hasta Luego!
